Abstract
This article seeks to understand one of the most extraordinary foreign policy crises in Danish diplomatic history. How did the Greenland crisis unfold? How should we understand Trump’s January 2026 Davos decision to retreat from his maximalist demands regarding Greenland? Finally, how do we make sense of Trump’s stated reasons for taking Greenland in the first place?
