    Abstract

Ukraine's political stability is of crucial importance to the country and has a bearing on broader political stability in Europe. After the Maidan Revolution of 2014 , the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsular, and the armed conflict in the east of the country, the implementation of the decentralisation reforms introduced has received little attention. This study suggests that state building at the local level has a significant contribution to make to the country's overall political stability. It can strengthen citizen-state relations, reduce regional inequalities and promote local economic development.
