    Abstract

The issue of slavery and its legacies is a crucial element of the political landscape in many African countries. This special issue explores the collective mobilizations led by various groups of descendants of slaves and examines how this status can serve not only as a source of exclusion but also as a catalyst for resisting different forms of domination. It highlights the wide range of strategies and approaches used to build claims against inequalities in "post-slavery" societies, while also revealing their complexities. While research on the continent has so far focused on the Sahel-Saharan region, this issue broadens the scope to other African contexts (Madagascar, Kenya, Tunisia), while offering a comparative perspective on the Americas.
