    Abstract

The reflections that Arendt developed about natality, superfluousness, evil, forgiveness and the unforgiveable help clarify the ethical and political stakes in the current massive refugee crisis. The deaths and displacement of refugees is about the overwhelming number of personal losses and tragedies. It is also about turning human beings into the scum of the earth and treating them as superfluous matter.
