Abstract

In Mozambique, people are uncertain what they should fear the most: Covid-19, hunger or state repression. The corona crisis is exposing and intensifying an already existing political and economic crisis in Mozambique as well as deepening mistrust of the government. ‘We are afraid of the illness [virus], but we are also afraid of the police, who are threatening us a lot’, as one Mozambican put it.
