Abstract

Due to high-risk migration, the EU-African summit on migration in Valletta, Malta, is taking place in the context of massive casualties on the Mediterranean. In this DIIS Impact policy recommendation, EU and Africa is urged to supplement the focus on deportation and border control with better protection mechanisms for the most vulnerable migrants.
