Alberte Bové Rud’s research focuses on perceptions and challenges of democracy specifically focusing on Italy. She is particularly interested in political leaders aiming a critique towards the existing political system, while staging themselves as the embodiment of the will of the people. Bové Rud further studies the democratic implications of this mechanism. 

Using a historical-ideological approach, Bové Rud does research on the popular appeal of Matteo Salvini, Silvio Berlusconi and Benito Mussolini

Current research

Alberte Bové Rud studies how person-driven leadership on the right wing of Italian politics throughout the 20^th and 21st century has criticized democracy while staging themselves as democratic. She is interested in how charisma influences leadership and how political strategies are affected by the transition from campaigning to governing.
