    Description

During 2017, there have been significant developments in the landscape of European ‘foreign fighting.’ The Danish intelligence service notes in their most recent report that few people now leave the West to fight in the Middle East. The focus on those leaving is therefore increasingly being superseded by a focus on those returning; how they may best be reintegrated into society, and potentially even play a role in dissuading others from engaging in similar activities. Of those leaving, women now constitute an overwhelming majority, while converts to Islam are also disproportionately represented. In this seminar, we will take stock of these developments and focus in on the new trends in foreign fighting.
