Application submitted to the Danish Council for Independent Research, the Humanities (DFF2) Fall 2015.The collaborative research project European Memories of Mass Atrocities, EMMA, will through a series of case studies in East and Central Europe, in Russia and in Scandinavia analyse the interplay between the Holocaust as the paradigmatic European memory and national memory politics, and how other major historical crimes, in particular Stalinist crimes, have been addressed and dealt with in Europe since 2004.
