A Politics of Ambiguity of Gender and Security

Activity: Talk or PresentationPresentation/Speaker at conference, seminar, workshop etc.

    Description

Existential phenomenology uses the concept of ambiguity to highlight multiple significations and the indeterminacy of meaing. Feminist IR theorists also invoke the concept of ambiguity to draw attention to how difference is reporduced rather than given. With regard to the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda a politics of ambiguity challenges the polarity of maternal peacekeepers and masculine warriors, suggesting the need for developing agendas for the peace and security of men and boys as well.
