Abstract
This chapter presents an overview of the literature on climate change and human mobility as well as of the arguments made when connecting the two. Drawing on recent scholarly developments, it posits that governance is an overlooked aspect in understandings of the complex nexus between environmental change and mobility outcomes. Diverse governance contexts shape how climate change is experienced and mediate human responses. The chapter argues for an approach that not only identifies particular forms of governance and their effects but also seeks to document how these have come about over time and how they may be reconfigured in response to changing circumstances. It then outlines this approach and indicates where each of the chapters in the book fits into this.
