Stefano Guzzinis primære forskningsområder er international teori, sikkerhedsstudier (ontologisk sikkerhed), tilgange til udenrigspolitisk analyse (primært anvendt på Frankrig, Tyskland og Italien) samt konceptuel analyse af magt og magtteorier.
Aktuel forskning
For nylig har Stefano Guzzini arbejdet med fortolkende metoder (proces-sporing og idéer vedrørende ikke-effektiv kausalitet) og kritisk geopolitik, som den anvendes i Europa.
