    Beskrivelse

The world’s poor are increasingly concentrated in fragile and conflict-affected states, many of them in the Global South. Hence, to eradicate global poverty, the international community must find new ways of assisting these countries finding sustainable paths out of recurrent violence. To address chronic fragility and instability, capacity must be built to allow local actors to lead their own peacebuilding, recovery and development processes. Often, other countries in the Global South have been through similar transitions and have invaluable lessons and capacities to share. Based on recent analytical studies there is now growing demand for effective South-South cooperation partnerships in the areas of peace and development, conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Partnerships need to be strengthened both within fragile and conflict-affected states and the group of least developed countries as well as with emerging countries and dynamic non-state actors of the Global South. Stronger SSC partnerships are also critical for achieving the SDGs. The UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), in collaboration with the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), therefore have the pleasure of inviting you to a seminar on South-South Cooperation in the area of peace and development. The seminar focuses on the role of SSC in assisting fragile and conflict-affected states by showcasing concrete examples of such initiatives and the lessons they have produced from South Sudan (DIIS) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (CIC, the Centre for International Cooperation at New York University). These presentations will establish the context for an evidence-based discussion of opportunities and challenges in SSC in fragile and conflict-affected states between key United Nations entities, academia and Member States.
